How to Choose a Muslimah Dress

A stylish muslimah will always have a balancing act to do in which they need to balance fashion, style and also the Islam requirement as stated in the Quran to cover her Aurah. The Aurah for women are for all of her body except her face and hand which is only meant to be seen by her husband. As stated in the Quran as below.

”Enjoin believing women to turn their eyes away from temptation and to preserve their chastity; to cover their adornments (except such as are normally displayed); to draw their veils over their bosoms and not to reveal their finery except to their husbands” (the Holy Qur’an, 24:30, 31).

With this, Muslimah always has to cover her Aurah as their priority and fashion needs to take second priority. However, there are many designers of muslimah dress and fashion now that have been bold enough to design the muslimah dress to be fashionable and in the same time adhering to the rule of the religion.

So, what are the mandatory requirements for a Muslimah dress according to the Islamic belief? The criteria can be seen as follows:-

1. The number one rule is to cover all parts of the body except the hands and face. This rule must be adhered by all Muslimah particularly in choosing a suitable Muslimah dress. It must be designed to cover the hair and all parts of the body.

2. Second rule for a Muslimah dress is that it must not be too tight until it reveals the curve of a woman’s body. So, eventhough the clothes covers the Aurah, it must not be too tight. This is where the requirements of Islam and the need for fashion and style needs to be balanced perfectly.

3. Third rule is that Muslimah’s dress must not resemble a men’s wear. Therefore a Muslimah cannot wear a Men’s dress even though it adheres to the rule number one and rule number two.

These are the basic criteria for a Muslimah to choose her dress and clothing. The need for fashion is not haram as long as the balancing of fashion and Islamic way of life is being practiced.
